The garden has two levels, and is kind of shaped like a kidney bean. We needed something that would fit in the corner of our property line to take the focus off of our neighbors' white fence and the edge of the woods behind it. The fact that it's raised also helps to prevent our deer and rabbit friends from trampling and/or eating all of it. The liquid fence deer repellent we spray around it helps with that as well...although it doesn't smell the best!
In the top row I've got 4 different tomato plants, green, red, and banana peppers, basil, parsley, and cilantro.
In the bottom row there's zucchini, scallions, carrots, and cucumbers. I also planted some mint along the edge of the yard, and I'm hoping that it will spread into the woods a bit.
I've kept it all alive for a week so far, which is good for me. I've been watering like crazy since it has been over 90 degrees the past two days. Everything is looking healthy and growing in nicely, and we've only had one minor incident with deer snacking. I even have a few little tomatoes starting to grow. I'm praying for lots and lots of home grown vegetables this summer!
We've got some other things growing in our yard as well, it's kind of fun to see what everything is as it pops up! We had no idea what most of the plants would be since we moved into our house this past winter when everything was cut back and covered in snow.
I'll share more pictures once things grow in a bit more. Hope you're all keeping cool!
love that raised bed. And those lilacs! WOW! Your garden looks lovely. I love gardening. You can be sure the mint will spread. It gives off such a wonderful fragrance when you walk through it.

ReplyDeleteLookin good! I love those lilacs. My garden is growing as well. Wed is my weekly weeding day. Yeah (not). I recommend mulching so you don't have to weed so much!
ReplyDeleteWell, the top picture of the three at the bottom is a Hosta. The middle is a Lilac and I'm not sure on the bottom one.
ReplyDeleteHope that helps.
Your raised garden looks great! I'm impressed at your green thumb. And yeah, holy heat wave here as well.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so perfect. It's just beautiful with all those plants.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful raised bed! Have fun gardening!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely and healthy plants...I would like to steal the layered terrace planting area for my yard....I have red okra and tomato sprouts in my pots...once they are bigger I am going to move them into a bigger pot...until my planting terrace is ready..heheh :)
ReplyDeleteyea! they look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat bottom image looks like a lovely boxwood! I imagine you all planted the hosta and boxwood, or did you inherit those? What a nice gift from the former owners, if so! We're househunting and hoping to find a yard that's been loved totally or neglected totally--one or the other, so either it's already perfect or we can make it perfect, but not something middling in between...
ReplyDeleteGarden looks great--another 90 days and you'll be living in tomato heaven!
OH, do I miss the lilacs and the hostas. We can't grow them in my neck of the woods here in Florida. Your raised bed is quite lovely!
ReplyDeleteCan you explain how the raised bed was built? Is it just the weight of the bricks that keeps it in place or is there more to it that keeps it all together? Also did you line it before you filled it with soil/compost?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you your raised veggie bed is just beautiful . I myself this year had two raised veggie beds built 4X12 I got my idea of Pinterest it will make gardening much easier for years I fought the ground weeds well happy gardening and stay cool. Diane H Prospect Ct
