This was the view from my cutting table this weekend, while I spent Saturday making a few of these gorgeous feather blocks from Anna Maria Horner's free pattern.
I've officially used up every last bit of my Chicopee FQ bundle (available at Pink Castle Fabrics and Stash Fabrics). All that's left are the selvages, which I continue to save with no use in mind. I think I'm going to have to buy another bundle soon, I don't think I'm done sewing with these pretty prints just yet.
I spent last night putting three of the six feathers that I made to use, making a knitting needle roll for a friend! The needle roll is based off of one that I received from my friend Amanda! I think she should make a pattern for it, don't you? :) I used a black Sew Classics linen from Joann's as the background, and I love the way it turned out.
Since I didn't have any Chicopee left, I used a few random scraps and prints I had in my stash to make the inside.
The prints coordinate really well with the feathers without being too matchy matchy.
Hopefully my friend will get a lot of use out of this needle roll! I'm already plotting what to do with the rest of my feathers!

These rock! What is the background fabric you used?
ReplyDeleteOh duh if only I read further!
ReplyDeleteThose feathers make me swoon every time I see them. Beautiful! Your friend is lucky to receive such a pretty gift.
ReplyDeleteLove the needle roll and your Chicopee feathers! I just made some as well with Chicopee for cushions. You are right- it's a fantastic fabric line!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! What a great friend you are!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow they look so good! I wasn't really into Chicopee, but your feathers are really helping persuade me that I need some! I love the feather pattern too, i'm going to have to use that soon.
ReplyDeletep.s. The dress you sent came last week and I've already worn it and it's wonderful!! I love it! Thank you!
WOW, I LOVE your feathers!! I just received my FQs of Chicopee today, please forgive me if I copy your idea, I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteI so love these feathers and they look fabulous in Chicopee. I can't believe how rich the feather looks against this particular background fabric. Is it really black? Does it just look chocolate brown in the photos?
ReplyDeletewow, everything about this project is simply perfect!!!!
ReplyDeleteamazing. seriously.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to resist Chicopee (I got a few small cuts), but I think this just put me over the top...
Those are freaking gorgeous! Ok, I need a big bundle of chicopee. Or just your address so I can come steal them. I'd be driving though, and I'm in Canada, so you probably have enough notice to get an alarm installed, train up an attack dog, sew them into a quilt and mail it to a friend. Maybe I'll just make my own.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with Kelsey, what's that background on the needle case? I thought it was a sketch print at first but now I'm thinking essex linen or a shot cotton? And I just realized it's the darker version of your blog background, which is pretty funny.
I love the needle roll! And yes, Amanda should definitely make a pattern! Oh, the feathers. The FEATHERS. I have had these on my mind a lot lately. I'm going to have to give them a go soon!
ReplyDeletelove it so much, it is perfect holly! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, it really is lovely!! That black linen really makes the feather pop. Great fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteI love your Chicopee feathers - just wondering how many you managed to make form the FQ bundle please?
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously awesome, Holly!!! I bet your friend has completely flipped out over it!! :) What is that yellow print is that you used on the inside?
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, those feathers are lovely! Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm really digging Chicopee these days. The prints are so, so usable! That needle roll is super cute. Great tie!
ReplyDeleteI missed this somehow! I actually just saw via Denyse Schmidt Quilts on facebook, she's sharing it today!! These are my favorite feathers yet, love them!!
