I've been working on a hand quilting project the last few weeks, quilting around each of the stars in my Lone Starburst quilt!
The idea to hand quilt this project has been in the back of my mind for awhile, and after the hand quilting class I took from AMH at QuiltCon, I knew it was meant to be. I've been stitching up a star or two every time I sit on the couch to watch tv.
This is the perfect project to practice on! I am getting much faster compared to when I started, and my stitches are getting much more even as I go.
They are starting to look pretty good from the back side too!
I've only got two and a half stars left to go, and then I can finally bind and donate this do.Good Stitches quilt!

ReplyDeleteIt's so so beautiful Holly. I adore it all!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and I'm all in favor of large quilting stitches! They look so good.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first visited the USA, 30 years ago, and met quilters there, the only question they asked me was how many stitches to the inch i was doing. At that time (coming from Switzerland) I didn't even know quilting needles existed, so I was very far from the 9 or more stitches they were hoping for! I kept my large stitches ever since and still do them that way. A friend even asked me one day if I would quilt my quilt by hand once I would be finished basting (I was already quilting!)
Thanks for your beautiful pictures! I love your blog!
This is so beautiful - really love your stitching around the stars!
ReplyDeleteYour stitches really look good
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so pretty! Love the stars. I have to ask tho...how do you get soooo many quilts done? I follow a few different blogs and I am amazed how many quilts people turn out. However you guys do it, I'm always impressed! I don't seem to get half as much sewing done. I am practically retired and I just don't know where the days go!

ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing! What kind of needle are you using with the perle cotton?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I am itching to do some hand quilting with perle cotton. Your photos are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I love all the bright colors paired with the white background. Hand quilted always have much more character than machine quilted ones. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience for hand quilting :(
